Introduction


Microsoft developed a spreadsheet called Microsoft Excel. It is developed for Windows, MacOs, Android and iOS. Its main features calculation, pivot tables, graphing tools, and a macro programming language called Visual Basic Application. Until 2007 Microsoft Excel version used an Excel Binary File Format (.XLS) as its primary proprietary binary file format. The 2.0 is the first version of Excel in 1987, 3.0 is the second version in 1990, 4.0 is the third version in 1992, etc. The latest version is 16.0 in 2016.

Spreadsheet:- It is an interactive computer application for organization analysis and storage of data in tabular form. It is developed as computerized simulations of paper accounting worksheet. Each cell may contain either numeric or text data, or the results of formulas that automatically calculate and display a value based on the contents of other cells.

Cell:- A “cell” can be thought of as a box for holding data. An Array of the cell is called a Sheet or Worksheet. A single cell is usually referenced by its columns and row. Column denotes the independent variables using the letters A-Z, whereas row representing the dependent variables are referenced in decimal notation starting from 1.

Worksheet:-It is a sheet of paper on which one performs work. It is “a sheet of paper on which work schedules, working time, special instructions, etc. are recorded. In accounting, a worksheet is, or was, a sheet of ruled paper with rows and columns on which an accountant could record information or perform calculations.

Charts:-The generated graphics component can either be embedded within the current sheet or added as a separate object.

Pivot table: A pivot table is a table of statistics that summarize the data of a more extensive table.

Basic Operation

Microsoft Excel has the basic features of all spreadsheets, using a grid of cells arranged in numbered rows and letter-named columns to organize data manipulations like arithmetic operations. It has a battery of supplied functions to answer statistical, engineering and financial needs. In addition, it displays data as histograms, charts and line graphs with a very limited three-dimensional graphical display.
